Online Interior Design Consultation

Online interior design, also called e-design or virtual interior design, is interior design done remotely: you share photos of your room and your style preferences, and a designer sends back a design you can see before you buy, paint or move anything. There is no site visit, and most online interior design services charge a flat fee per room instead of an hourly rate.

Bella's virtual interior design consultation is Design My Room. For $99 per room, a real interior designer, never AI, redesigns your room in three different styles and delivers photorealistic images of your own space in 24 to 48 hours, with unlimited revisions for two weeks. We work with homeowners, home sellers and real estate agents across the United States and Canada.

What is online interior design (e-design)?

Online interior design is professional room planning and decor advice delivered over the internet instead of in person. The designer works from what you share, usually photos, measurements or floor plans, plus your style preferences, budget details and how you use the room. You review the design at your own pace, ask for changes, and then buy and arrange the furniture yourself.

What you get back depends on the company. In Apartment Therapy's roundup of online interior design services, most platforms start with a questionnaire, then a designer builds a digital inspiration board with furnishings, paint colors and room layout suggestions, and you receive a shopping list once you approve the plan. Common deliverables across online interior design services include:

  • A mood board or design board showing the look, color palettes and materials
  • A furniture layout or floor plan
  • A shopping list with product recommendations for furniture, lighting, rugs and decor
  • 3D renderings, so you can see the room before you purchase anything

There are two broad kinds of online design services: ones where a human interior designer does the work, and DIY or AI apps that generate ideas automatically. Bella is the first kind. Every design is composed by hand by a professional designer.

How Bella's virtual interior design consultation works

The entire process happens online, and most orders are finished in one to two days.

  1. Order Design My Room. Order one photo for each room or angle you want designed. Your order confirmation includes an upload link, so you can order now and send photos whenever they're ready.
  2. Send your photos and style preferences. Upload a clear, wide photo of the room, shot level at chest height with the whole space in frame. Photos at least 1,000 pixels on the long edge work, and most phone photos already qualify. The service works from photos of empty or furnished rooms. Tell us the look you want by quoting a set code from our Look Book, naming a style, or leaving the choice to your designer.
  3. A designer creates three designs. A real interior designer furnishes your photo three different ways, using furniture from real brands, and matches scale, light and shadow to your room.
  4. Review, revise and download. Your designs arrive by download link in 24 to 48 hours. Compare them side by side, tell us anything you'd like changed, and download the final images. Revisions are unlimited and free for two weeks, backed by rework or refund.

What you get with Design My Room

  • Three unique designs per room, each in a different furniture style, so you can compare design options side by side
  • Photorealistic, high-resolution images of your own room, not a generic mood board: furniture, decor, color scheme and layout shown in the actual space
  • Furniture from real brands, the same kind of designer-styled sets you can browse in our Look Book
  • A design tailored to your style preferences and to the room you photographed
  • Delivery in 24 to 48 hours
  • Unlimited revisions for two weeks, and rework or refund if it still isn't right
  • Real interior designers, never AI

What Design My Room does not include

Design My Room is a design and visualization service. It does not include a home visit, construction or project management. Floor plans are a separate service: see our 2D and 3D floor plans. If you also want to see new floors, paint, counters or fixtures, virtual renovation ($69 per photo) digitally replaces the finishes and then stages the finished room.

How much does online interior design cost?

Design My Room costs $99 per room in US dollars for one room, and you get three designs of it, about $33 per design. Customers in Canada pay in Canadian dollars at checkout. There are no subscriptions or hourly fees: you pay once per room, so designing multiple rooms simply means ordering once per room.

Most online interior design services price by the room or by the package. Apartment Therapy notes that most feature flat-fee rates per room or design concept, and that $200 to $300 can get you far. Published examples: Havenly starts at $129 for its Mini package; every plan includes a shopping list and an ordering team, and the $199 Online Full package adds 3D renderings and a floor plan. Decorilla runs from $599 per room for its bronze package to upwards of $2,000 for a living room on its platinum package, with exclusive discounts of up to 45% on furniture from partner vendors. roomLift charges $900 for its accessoryLift package and $1,800 for a full package that ships fabric, tile and textile samples to your door (Apartment Therapy; The Spruce). Prices change often, so check each service for current rates and special discounts.

Option Typical cost What it usually includes
Bella Design My Room $99 per room Three photorealistic designs of your own room in 24–48 hours, by a real designer
Online interior design packages About $129 to $2,000+ per room Design board, floor plan, shopping list, sometimes 3D renderings; timelines of days to weeks
Traditional interior designer $8,550 average project; most pay $2,055–$15,256 Site visits, full design plan, sourcing and contractor coordination

Traditional figures are from Angi's 2026 cost data, which puts designer rates at $100 to $500 per hour and suggests budgeting $200 to $3,000 for consultations and design visuals such as mood boards and 3D renderings.

Online interior design vs traditional interior design

Traditional interior design is a full-service relationship: an interior designer visits in person, produces a full design plan, and often manages sourcing, trade discounts and contractors. Online interior design hands you the design and leaves the buying and setup to you, which is why it costs a fraction as much.

Online interior design Traditional interior design
How you work Photos and messages, on your own schedule Site visits and meetings in person
How it's priced Flat fee per room or photo Hourly, flat fee, or a percentage of the project
Speed Days (24–48 hours at Bella) Usually weeks to months, including sourcing and installation
Who buys and installs You do Often the designer's team
Best for Furnishing and decorating a room, comparing ideas Renovations, whole homes and complex projects

Online interior design works best for furnishing and decorating rather than structural renovation. If you're moving walls or rebuilding a kitchen, a local designer who can see the house in person is worth the higher cost. If you want to know how a room could look before you spend money on it, a virtual interior design service is faster, more flexible and more affordable.

Who Bella's online interior design services are for

Homeowners

Planning a new space, furnishing the first room in a new home, or weighing a complete makeover against a simple refresh? Seeing three finished directions in your own room makes it easier to choose a style and avoid buying pieces that don't suit the space.

Home sellers

An empty or dated room is hard to picture. Design My Room shows what it could become, in three styles. If what you need is furnished photos for the listing itself, virtual staging is built for that: $37 per photo, one MLS-ready design, delivered in 24 to 48 hours.

Real estate agents

Show buyers or sellers what an awkward or empty room could become, with three options instead of one. Weighing an in-person staging visit instead? Our guide to the home staging consultation compares in-person advice with the virtual options.

Choose a style from the Look Book

Not sure what you like? Browse our Look Book for inspiration. Every set is a real room styled by our expert designers, and you can filter by room, style or brand, then copy a look's code and send it with your order. Styles include:

  • Contemporary
  • Modern Farmhouse
  • Scandinavian
  • Coastal
  • Mid-Century Modern
  • Traditional
  • Transitional

You can also leave the style to your designer, who will choose three looks that suit the room.

Design My Room or virtual staging?

Both are done by the same designers, but they solve different problems. Design My Room ($99 per room) gives you three designs to compare, which is helpful when you're deciding how to furnish a room. Virtual staging ($37 per photo) gives you one finished, MLS-ready design for a real estate listing, with volume discounts on larger orders and free furniture removal for occupied rooms.

Online interior design FAQ

What is an e-design?

E-design is electronic or online interior design: a designer creates your room's design remotely from photos, measurements and your preferences, and delivers it digitally. You carry out the plan yourself.

How much does an online interior designer cost?

Bella's Design My Room costs $99 per room for three designs. Other online interior design services generally range from about $129 to $2,000 or more per room depending on the package, while a traditional designer averages $8,550 per project, according to Angi.

How much does e-design usually cost?

Most e-design is sold as a flat fee per room. Apartment Therapy notes that $200 to $300 per room can get you far with most services, and premium packages cost more.

Is there a free consultation or free trial?

Not for Design My Room; it is a paid service at $99 per room. The $40 voucher on our free sample page applies to virtual staging only. If you're unsure whether your photos will work, contact us before ordering.

What software is used for e-design?

It varies by designer. Bella's designers work in professional tools including Adobe Photoshop, 3ds Max and Corona, plus our own internal tools. We don't use AI staging or templates.

Can ChatGPT give interior design advice?

AI tools can suggest ideas and color palettes, but they can't see your room the way a designer does, and AI-generated room images often show floating furniture, wrong scale, or altered walls and windows. Every Bella design is made by a real interior designer.

What is the 70/30 rule in interior design?

It's a guideline for mixing styles: decorate about 70% of the room in your main style and 30% in a different style or styles, so the room feels balanced but interesting (Homes & Gardens).

What is the 3-5-7 rule in decorating?

It's the rule of odds: group items in threes, fives or sevens, because odd numbers feel more natural to the eye. Some designers also use it as a layering system: three anchor pieces, five supporting pieces such as lamps and window treatments, and seven groups of decor (Upgraded Home).

How long does online interior design take at Bella?

24 to 48 hours from the moment you upload your photos, with unlimited revisions free for two weeks.

Can you design multiple rooms?

Yes. Order once per room, and each room gets three designs.

Do you visit my house?

No. Bella is a virtual company, so everything is done online from your photos, wherever you live in the United States or Canada.
